Civic Engagement and Leadership Programs
Under our civic engagement and Leadership program is our flagship Step Up Ghana initiative launched to inspire youth to address social issues and contribute to SDGs through seminars, webinars, and innovation labs.
Programs under the step up Ghana initiative include:
- Step Up Talks including organizing seminars and webinars, sensitizing youth on SDGs and emerging trends.
- Civic Sparks, a grassroots engagement to co-create solutions with communities, addressing local priorities and to re-orient them on the need for youth leadership for sustainable growth and community development.
- Step Up Lab. A youth-led innovation projects designing solutions for community challenges, fostering entrepreneurship and leadership.
- The People’s Podium: A competition for basic school students to discuss social issues and propose solutions and receiving financial or social support to lead proposed solutions. This promotes civic awareness among younger youth and supports poverty elimination from the ground up.
- SDG for the Basic Schools: These are SDG campaigns customized to the level of basic school students in Ghana and promoting mindset shifting from the grassroots before they transition into young adults and adults. By this time, they have known and had all that it takes to promote the SDGs at the various levels of their lives and communities.
- Step-Up Mentorship Program: The YDP Ghana Mentorship Program is a transformative initiative designed to provide year-long guidance and empowerment to young people. Our mission is to equip youth with the skills, values, and opportunities they need to thrive in their personal lives, careers, and communities. Many of our mentees are graduates of the Quick Learn, Quick Earn Program, an innovative project that equips young people with practical, short-term skills to create immediate income opportunities, build confidence, and foster self-reliance. Building on this foundation, the mentorship program takes participants further on their journey of growth and leadership. Through the Step Up Mentorship Program, young people are paired with business leaders, professionals, and coaches who guide them in areas such as leadership development, career growth, business innovation, and personal transformation. This one-year structured mentorship experience ensures that youth not only acquire knowledge but also learn how to apply it to achieve real impact.
